Gun violence is a uniquely American epidemic. More Americans die at the hands of gun violence than in any other industrialized nation. We should be working across the aisle to craft solutions that will save lives, and address the problem at its core. Just as Josh has worked in a bipartisan fashion to end gun violence in the Nassau County Legislature, he will work with both parties in Congress to craft common sense solutions to end this crisis.
In Office Josh…
- Co-sponsored a bill in the Nassau County Legislature to require any gun owner living with a minor to keep the weapon stored securely
- Proposed the “Scott J. Beigel Gun Violence Prevention Bill,” which would keep guns out of the hands of individuals transported involuntarily by a police officer for psychiatric evaluation
- In wake of the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision that struck down New York’s concealed carry restrictions, Josh is fighting for a bill that would ban concealed carry on Nassau County beaches, public transit, parks, and Nassau County Community College Campus
In Congress Josh Will…
- Support Universal background checks that would prevent domestic abusers, people on the no fly list, and other individuals that pose a threat to others from getting guns
- Remove weapons of war from our streets. An assault-style weapons ban and a ban on high-capacity magazines must be passed to ensure that our communities stay safe
- Support red flag laws to allow judges to take guns away from individuals at risk if they suspect they will hurt themselves or others
- Focus on mental health as an important aspect of gun violence. We must make substantial investments to bolster our mental health services if we truly want to solve the issue holistically
- Allow the CDC to study gun violence as a public health issue in order to craft effective policy to decrease gun violence. The CDC is currently prohibited from studying gun violence and we need accurate information to address the crisis
