Combating Heroin & Substance Abuse
As a member of the Nassau County Heroin Prevention Task Force, and a board member of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD), I have dedicated a significant portion of my adult life working towards pragmatic, common-sense solutions to stem the tide of the horrible disease of drug addiction which has taken 62,000 thousand lives in the United States in 2016 alone, and which affects all of us, regardless of race, gender or class.
That is why when elected, I have pledged to support crucial measures in the fight against addiction. We need to lobby Albany for additional funding for public service announcements and prevention education, which is the only real solution to this horrible scourge. We need all SUNY & Long Island Universities to offer substance free dormitories. We need a 24-hour assessment center to help with immediate screening, intervention and referrals to treatment so families have a specific location where to bring a loved one in need, and we need to continue the distribution of NARCAN, and to train all Nassau County employees in its use to save those who are overdosing.
